5 Reasons to Move to the Texas Gulf Region

The past two years have been trying on everyone. It might be time for a new start and some new scenery.

But how do you know where to go next? Making a big move can be scary and intimidating! It’s like going on a blind date, except it’s one where you have to take all your stuff with you and it doesn’t last a few hours, but maybe a few years.

Luckily, you can do plenty of research online about a place before you move, which might help you see that the Texas Gulf Region is where you belong.

What’s so great about it here?

Salt life!

It’s a gulf region, meaning plenty of access to water. Beautiful sandy beaches stretch for miles between the Louisiana border south to the border with Mexico — 367 miles, to be exact — with plenty of opportunities for swimming, kayaking, boating, tubing, rafting and other aquatic fun. Want to explore the sea life without the sea? We’ve got the fantastic and massive Texas State Aquarium in Corpus Christi with examples of ecosystems from around the world and tons of sea creatures to marvel at while you learn.

The food.

Oh, goodness, the food. Whatever you’re looking for, whatever lifestyle you embrace, we have some of the best restaurants in the world, from mom-and-pop hidden gems to some of the hottest young, innovative chefs in the business. It’s not just barbecue! There’s some of the best Tex-Mex food in the world along the Gulf Coast, incredible seafood restaurants to be found around any corner and, for the comfort food seekers, Corpus Christi is the home of the Whataburger chain!

The cost of living is lower than you’d imagine.

Wages go further along the Gulf Coast than in other places, helped by a higher-than-average median salary, around $38,000 or $9,000 higher than the national average. To make it even better, the cost of living is about 8% lower than the national average as well, thanks to strong wages, lower cost of basic goods and needs and no state income tax on your pay. Additionally, the average cost of a home is less than $200,000; even in booming San Antonio, the median house costs around $243,000 and there’s a ton of open land to be purchased and improved upon — one estimate says there is $30 billion worth of land for sale across the state!

It’s a melting pot.

Diversity is a buzzword among companies these days, looking to be more welcoming to workers from around the world. Along the Gulf Coast, this is a reality by default. There are more than 145 languages spoken in Houston alone and Texas is the second-most diverse state in the whole country! This can be a welcoming environment for people from anywhere and it’s a great place to learn about other cultures.

There’s so much to do!

The Gulf Coast is home to incredible landmarks in American history, wonderful museums, great sports teams at all levels — you know we’re big into football, right? That’s real! — in addition to a varied and rich music scene that changes from city to city but always keeps the two-step practiced and ready for a go. Nature lovers can visit Sea Turtle Inc., a rehab facility for sea turtles, or visit beautiful Port Aransas Beach, just north of Padre Island and one of the longest barrier islands in Texas, and Padre Island National Seashore, 30+ miles of natural wonder.
