3 Reasons to Consider being an Electrician

If you’re looking for a career with a bright future, consider becoming an electrician.

It’s one of the most dependable industries and one in which good people are always needed, but it doesn’t have the same barriers to entry as other jobs — plus, it pays well!

Here are three reasons why becoming an electrician might be your best path forward:

Good pay with plenty of potential.

As of October 2022, the average salary for an electrician is around $53,000, with a range of $46,300 to $61,600, depending on experience, the location where you’re working, education, certification, etc. But the good news is, the more experience you gain, the more certifications you pick up, the higher your salary can reach!

Plenty of on-the-job training is available.

Speaking of experience, you will have so many opportunities to learn. The longer you work, the more chances you’ll have to learn new skills while perfecting the basic ones, especially if you go into a niche field: not all electrician jobs are the same! You might want to work on houses with a framing or construction company, or you might want to work on office buildings or other larger spaces. Maybe you want to specialize in high-tech environments — there are so many possibilities, with each kind of work requiring and offering training on particular skills and areas of expertise.

No degree is needed to start.

Possibly the best thing about going into the electrical field is that you don’t need to wait to begin. You don’t need a four-year degree to get your foot in the proverbial door. Electricians start with an apprenticeship program, in which you learn on-the-job while you’re earning a paycheck. You might need to buy some supplies and/or textbooks to help learn the basics, but you’ll be getting paid at the same time and getting hands-on training without having to wait to get started.
